Moet and Chandon Grand Vintage

2012 Moet and Chandon Grand Vintage

Jancis Robinson 16.5/20

Each Grand Vintage is unique, expressing the Moët & Chandon Cellar Master's personal interpretation of the year. 2012 is our 74th Grand Vintage; and is exceptional in its maturity, complexity and charisma.

The 2012 Grand Vintage evokes the transition from spring to summer. It offers superb harmony, accompanied by softness and freshness.

This vintage’s red grape varieties were particularly good, especially the Meunier, which explains their dominant proportion in the blend. For once, the Chardonnay stays slightly in the background :

Ageing period in cellars: at least 5 years

Ageing after disgorging: at least 6 months

Dosage: 5g/litre

A shimmering colour:

Bright, pale yellow with glints of green, and fine, persistent bubbles.

A bouquet characterized by freshness:

Initial notes of fresh white flowers evolve towards sweet, fragrant pastries, with occasional scents of fresh walnuts, hazelnuts and biscuits. In parallel, the fruit is crisp, freshly ripened, with aromas of pear, white peach and nectarine.

The attack is soft, supple and fluid. The palate then develops texture, with a softness like cashmere or felt. This initial softness gradually reveals a purity, the crisp structure lengthens, lingering, to offer an iodized, tangy finish, underscored by a mouthwatering hint of grapefruit.

Perfect Serve:

Step1 - Place the bottle in a champagne bucket, fill with ice cubes and add water. Leave for at least 15 minutes before serving.

Step 2 - Take out the bottle, wipe it carefully, then gently pull away the back tab

Step 3 - Unfasten the wire cage without removing it completely while keeping the cork in place with the thumb.

Step 4 - Grasp the base of the bottle and twist it gently away from the cork (rather than twisting the cork away from the bottle). Gently remove the cork.

Step 5 - Fill each glass two-thirds full. Ladies first of course.. and enjoy your guests enjoying the magic of Moet!
